A Permanent Change to Your Body Must Begin With A Permanent Change to Your Mind

Updated: Feb 7

Millions of people find themselves in a constant battle to lose weight. Millions more who are successful at losing weight struggle to keep the weight off on a long-term basis. Sadly, statistics show that over 90% of all people who lose weight will regain it all back, with a large percentage gaining the weight back in less than 2 years. As hard as it is to lose weight, it’s much harder to keep if off.

Start Here

I’ve spent more than thirty years helping people with their exercise and nutrition, and there’s no doubt in my mind as to the single biggest reason people struggle with their bodyweight: Their Mind. It’s not the food people put in their mouths, but the thoughts they feed their minds that cause the biggest problem.

People who want to make physical changes to their body naturally seek to begin the process with their body. Yet, this is exactly what you DON’T want to do. Why? Because programming your mindset at the outset is essential for long-term success in managing a healthy body weight for life. Before you begin a weight loss or body transformation journey, you need to understand that you cannot make a permanent change to your body with a temporary diet.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

You can lose weight 1,000 different ways through 1,000 different “diets.” However, as we already observed, 9 times out of 10 you’ll regain all the weight back. Would you fly with an airline that had 9 out of every 10 planes crash? Would you invest your money into a fund that 9 out of 10 people lost all their money? We see and hear stories from everyone else’s short-term success in weight loss, and we take the bait and think if they can do it, I can do it, too. Of course, you can do it, but short-term is not the problem. Maintaining the results month after month, and year after year is the challenge that the 90% + can’t figure out.

There are similarities in maintaining our physical health and our financial health. Millions of people play the lottery every day – including yours truly, when the jackpot gets up there : ) We believe that once we hit the big pay day, we’ll never have to worry about our finances again. Yet statistics show that 70% of lottery winners are bankrupt within a few years. This is because they never acquired the financial planning and investment skills necessary to protect their one-time financial windfall. Losing weight is much the same. You can lose weight doing any number of diets that restrict your calories, but until you learn the basics of healthy, whole foods nutrition, macronutrient ratios, meal timing and frequency, understanding food labels, knowing how the human body works, and adhering to portion control as a way of life, you’ll always have problems managing your bodyweight.

Our mind is the most powerful thing in the universe, after God. Changing your mindset first makes it easier to change behavior patterns. Over time your new behaviors evolve into new habits, which in turn leads to changing your body. I like to say there are two camps of people: 1) Serial dieters who spend a lifetime losing and regaining weight, and 2) People who understand how to implement healthy, whole foods nutrition so they never have to be in the first group again. Before and after photos are great, but before and ever after photos are the greatest.

Yours in Peace,
