What Your Health and Wellness Coach Wishes You Would Read

One of the most important parts of KKWellness is the coaches. Whether you are a member of the Subscription Page or participate in Behavioral Coaching program the education provided is well above and beyond the cost of either of these services. Plus sometimes they can be pretty funny.

So I reached out to them and asked the coaches "what books would you recommend someone trying to live a healthier life read for inspiration and instruction?" If you don't happen to have them on speed dial it would be nice to have some wisdom sitting on your nightstand. And here are their answers!

It's Time To Eat: Embody, Awaken and Transform by Inge Sengelmann- this book is FREE with Kindle Unlimited

Today’s diet and exercise schemes continue to fail us, but rather than dig deeper for real solutions, we seem content to pursue the next quick fix. The multibillion weight-loss industry preys on people’s food and weight obsessions, fueling eating disorders in the process. It’s Time to EAT challenges the status quo, addressing the core issues underlying disordered eating and serving up answers that can change your life.

Part memoir, part self-help guide, this book examines not only what drives some to the extremes of obesity and anorexia or bulimia, but also why more and more people are latching on to unsustainable raw, gluten-free, and Paleo diet fads.

Through her candid personal insights, researched scientific theories, and spiritual practices, author and integrative psychotherapist Inge Sengelmann, LCSW, SEP, RYT, presents a clearer picture of what a healthy relationship with food, body, and self looks like and provides a road map to experience the freedom for yourself. As you enter a process of conscious embodiment, you will regulate your eating habits on a neurophysiological level. This unification of mind and body renews you from the inside out, offering a life-changing solution that lasts.

Alcohol Lied To Me by Craig Beck- this book is FREE with Kindle Unlimited

Craig Beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a beautiful home, and a successful media career. A director of several companies & at one time the trustee of a large children’s charity. Craig was a successful & functioning professional man in spite of a ‘2 bottles of wine a night’ drinking habit. For 20 years he struggled with problem drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.

He tried countless ways to cut down; attempting ‘dry months,’ banning himself from drinking spirits, only drinking at the weekend & special occasions (and found that it is amazing how even the smallest of an event can suddenly become ‘special’).

All these 'willpower' based attempts to stop drinking failed (exactly as they were destined to do). Slowly he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction & one by one all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. For the first time, he noticed that he genuinely didn’t want to drink anymore. In this book, he will lead you through the same fantastic process.

The Body Book by Cameron Diaz

Throughout her career, Cameron Diaz has been a role model for millions of women. By her own candid admission, though, this fit, glamorous, but down-to-earth star was not always health-conscious. In The Body Book, she shares what she has learned and continues to discover about nutrition, exercise, and the mind/body connection.

From demystifying and debunking the hype around food groups to explaining the value of vitamins and minerals, readers will discover why it’s so important to embrace the instinct of hunger and to satisfy it with whole, nutrient-dense foods. Cameron also explains the essential role of movement, the importance of muscle and bone strength and why we need to sweat a little every day.

The Body Book does not set goals to reach in seven days or thirty days or a year. It offers a holistic, long-term approach to making consistent choices and reaching the ultimate goal: a long, strong, happy, healthy life.

But I Deserve This Chocolate!: The Fifty Most Common Diet-Derailing Excuses and How To Outwit Them by Susan Albers

Most of us are really, really good at devising reasons to indulge in foods that derail our diets and healthy eating plans. When we view food as a reward, emotional eating can be difficult to overcome. Most fad diets tell you to “control” your eating, use willpower, ignore your cravings, or just stop eating. Recall for a moment where this got you in the past. Feeling frustrated or hopeless? Perhaps you’re thinking I need to get control. This is a sign that the diet mentality may be deeply ingrained in you.

In But I Deserve This Chocolate!, psychologist Susan Albers takes aim at the fifty most common self-sabotaging thoughts and excuses that keep you from eating right and looking great. This guide dismantles each excuse and offers a mindfulness exercise to help reroute your thoughts so you can meet your health goals.

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

“I believe we can change the world. But first, we’ve got to stop living in fear of being judged for who we are.”

Rachel Hollis has seen it too often: women not living into their full potential. They feel a tugging on their hearts for something more, but they’re afraid of embarrassment, of falling short of perfection, of not being enough.

In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people—whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee—instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.

Goddesses Never Age by Christiane Northrop

Though we talk about wanting to "age gracefully," the truth is that when it comes to getting older, we’re programmed to dread an inevitable decline: in our health, our looks, our sexual relationships, even the pleasure we take in living life. But as Christiane Northrup, M.D., shows us in this profoundly empowering book, we have it in us to make growing older an entirely different experience, both for our bodies and for our souls.

In chapters that blend personal stories and practical exercises with the latest research on health and aging, Dr. Northrup lays out the principles of ageless living, from rejecting processed foods to releasing stuck emotions, from embracing our sensuality to connecting deeply with our Divine Source. Explaining that the state of our health is dictated far more by our beliefs than by our biology, she works to shift our perceptions about getting older and show us what we are entitled to expect from our later years—no matter what our culture tries to teach us to the contrary—including:

   • Vibrant good health

   • A fulfilling sex life

   • The capacity to love without losing ourselves

   • The ability to move our bodies with ease and pleasure

   • Clarity and authenticity in all our relationships—especially the one we have with ourselves

"Taking all the right supplements and pills, or getting the right procedure done, isn’t the prescription for anti-aging," Dr. Northrup explains. "Agelessness is all about vitality, the creative force that gives birth to new life." Goddesses Never Age is filled with tools and inspiration for bringing vitality and vibrancy into your own ageless years—and it all comes together in Dr. Northrup’s 14-day Ageless Goddess Program, your personal prescription for creating a healthful, soulful, joyful new way of being at any stage of life.

The Mind Body Code: How To Change the Beliefs that Limit Your Health, Longevity and Success by Mario Martinez

Why is it so difficult to change our beliefs and behaviors even when we know they no longer serve us? How can certain individuals reverse "incurable" disease while others suffer the effects of childhood wounds despite years of therapy? How is it that the centenarians make up the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population—even though the majority of people over the age of 100 rarely visit their doctors?

When Dr. Mario Martinez began his career in clinical neuropsychology, he was determined to find the answers to baffling questions like these. With The MindBody Code, he shares the rewards of an investigation that has spanned generations and cultures to reveal the most effective methods for initiating deep and lasting change—and the empowering new science of biocognition that substantiates their results.

Far from a quick-fix approach, The MindBody Code will challenge you to embrace a bold paradigm for health and wellbeing that requires your courage, patience, and commitment. You will not only learn the basics of this cutting-edge science, you will learn to communicate with your body in its own "biosymbolic" language to begin making changes that till this point may have been elusive at best.
